Feeling fancy

For Christmas, Elizabeth got a Fancy Nancy book. It's a cute story about a little girl that likes to be fancy. In the story, she teaches her parents and younger sister how to be fancy, then they all go out for ice cream. Unfortunately, poor Nancy trips and falls, spilling the ice cream, and then says, "I don't feel fancy anymore." Elizabeth likes the book, and has asked to have it read to her many times.

On a seemingly unrelated note, yesterday, David and I took Elizabeth shopping for ballet clothes, as she is going to start taking ballet lessons at the YMCA this week. When I first mentioned them to her, she was very excited. Then, she started telling me that she didn't need dance lessons, because she already knew how to dance. (Anyone who has seen her attempts at dancing would probably disagree with that...) Finally, she started telling us that she didn't want dance lessons at all. Nothing I said would dissuade her. Until, of course, she saw the dance clothes. She quickly picked out a leotard that was pink AND shiny, then informed us that she must have ballet shoes to go with them. That's our girly girl for you!

Here she is all decked out in her outfit:

She insisted on putting it on as soon as we got home, then wore it for the rest of the day.

She never mentioned a word about the Fancy Nancy book while she had it on, but after she took it off at bathtime, she got a real sad face and said, "I don't feel fancy anymore." She's our own little Fancy Nancy!
