We pulled out our special sugar cookie recipe today to get cookies ready for Santa.

We also made a pecan pie for our Christmas dinner. I'm used to Mom's pretty pecan pies, with the pecans all perfectly arranged on the top. However, I quickly realized that a 3-year-old has never helped her make those. Here was Elizabeth's version:
Our pie didn't turn out as pretty as Mom's, but she sure had fun helping!

OK, I have never actually made a pecan pie, but my Aunt Carol makes them every year at Thanksgiving. I've asked her about making them and she has told me that you don't actually arrange the pecans on top... you mix it all up together and then when you bake the pie, they float up there. Hers always look like they were arranged, I always just assumed she did that.. but she said no, she just mixes the filling up and lets them float to the top. I definitely have to try this sometime to see if it's true!

Our mom's version has all of the pecans arranged on top in concentric circles. Very pretty!
